If you’re into making sourdough then you know about sourdough discard, but if you’re new to sourdough you may have no clue what sourdough discard is! In that case, refer to this post called how to make sourdough starter from scratch in which we review not only how to make a starter, but the terminology that goes along with it.

You see, the jars we keep our sourdough starters in are only so big. If we kept feeding and feeding our starters, we would quickly run out of room in the jar.

But wait! Don’t toss that extra leftover starter in the organics bin! Instead use it as a batter for deep-fried foods, in pie crust, homemade soft pretzels, and more! Keep reading for a continuously updated list of our favourite sourdough discard recipes.

The Sourdough Morning Glory muffins are fantastic and I seem to be baking a batch a week. I wanted to let you know that I “veganized” the recipe by using flax egg in place of the eggs (1 tablespoon ground flax to 3 tablespoons of water to replace one egg). The rise is great, the flavor marvelous and no birds had to live in cramed, unhealthy conditions.
